System Requirements
Storage Requirements
Growing demand of fast access to large amount of enterprise data to its customers, business partners and other stakeholders has become a key consideration while planning to implement the ERP system with cost, scalability, performance and manageability perspectives. The key factors to determine are - How much storage do you need in the next 3-5 years? How much is needed now? How much additional space is needed each year? Once you find answers to these questions, you opt for storage infrastructure and related technologies that optimally suits need of your organization.
SAN(Storage Area Network)
A SAN is a high speed network that interconnects different data storage devices and DB servers, usually it is clustered in close proximity with database servers. It supports disk mirroring, backup and restore, archival and retrieval or archived data, data migration from one storage device to another and sharing of data among different servers. It includes NAS (network attached storage) device which is a dedicated hard disk setup with its own network address (assigned an IP) and provides file based data storage services to other devices on the network.
Oracle 11g provides Oracle Partitioning and Oracle Advanced Compression options. Partitioning is completely transparent to peoplesoft applications and it improves availability of PS applications containing large tables such as GP application. Also, it can be used when running batch process in parallel isolating each process in its own partition on large transaction table reducing I/O contention. To effectively use this option, you need to determine candidate tables for partitioning based on identifying partitioning key or using a composite partitioning.
With Advanced compression options, you maximize storage utilization and thus reducing costs. It provides SecureFile technology - SecureFile Deduplication and SecureFile Compression. Deduplication eliminates duplication of SecureFile data and compression further minimize the storage requirement of SecureFiles data facilitating a reduction of 2x to 3x in size.
